Honoring Our Legacy: The Rev. Alexander Herritage Newton Campaign

Help Us Install a Historical Marker Celebrating Faith, Freedom, and Leadership
A Legacy Worth Remembering
New Mickle Baptist Church is honored to participate in the Underground Railroad Network by partnering with the NJHC Black Heritage Trail to install a historical marker recognizing Rev. Alexander Herritage Newton.
Rev. Newton once resided at 332 Washington Street, one of New Mickle Baptist Church’s properties. His life represents faith, leadership, resilience, and the powerful role our church has played in the history of Camden and beyond.
This marker will permanently commemorate his legacy and ensure that his story continues to inspire generations to come.
Why This Campaign Matters
History deserves to be visible.
Installing this marker will:
- Preserve and highlight Black history in Camden
- Honor Rev. Newton’s life and impact
- Educate visitors and future generations
- Celebrate the deep roots of New Mickle Baptist Church
This is not just about a plaque — it is about honoring a legacy of faith and freedom.
